I’m on Twitter every day. It’s a convenient way for me to keep in touch with my online friends and other interesting folks I happen to enjoy following.
If you like (and use) Twitter, and you happen to run a Mac, there are at least two Twitter clients of interest that you may already be aware of. The first is Twitterific, by IconFactory. The second is Twucket, by Rebisoft.
Twitterific is available in two flavors: free or pay. The free version is supported by ads that appear within your Twitter feed. The paid version eliminates the ads. Twitterific is a gorgeous program, with a clean, concise UI that lets you enter your ‘tweets’ and read others’ tweets. I enjoyed using it, but lately I’ve noticed that there is an appreciable delay between the time I enter a tweet to the time it appears. Many of these parameters are adjustable, I realize – but some of the flakiness I experienced in Twitterific caused me to look for other options.
For a while, I used the web client. This was acceptable, but I missed having instant access to my Twitter feed. I needed another Twitter client alternative.
Enter: Twucket.
Twucket is not as pretty as Twitterific, but what it lacks in beauty, it more than makes up with in stability and speed. Unlike Twitterific, Twucket runs in a normal window, meaning that windows can hover over it and vice-versa. It’s also free, as in beer – with no annoying ads.
The best part of Twucket is that it doesn’t beep, bounce, or otherwise distract me while I’m working. Twucket supports Growl (as does Twitterific), so I’m notified periodically when new tweets arrive.
I really like Twucket. It’s simple, clean, and does what it says in a very unobtrusive fashion. If you’re on a Mac, and you’re looking for a free alternative to Twitteriffic, or if you’re simply tired of visiting the Twitter.com site each and every time you want to check your tweets, give Twucket a whirl.
I highly recommend it.
