Back Up (Again)

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Lunarpages (which hosts pcweenies.net and UNCubed) was down earlier this morning for scheduled maintenance.

The good news is, things are back up and running once again. I took the downtime to update both my Wordpress installs. And, the forced downtime gave me an idea for next Friday’s strip…

This weekend I won’t be working on any strips. We’re getting new carpet in our place, and we have to spend most of the weekend getting the rooms cleared out for the carpet folks. The carpet guys come in on Monday, and I should have a ‘toon queued to go.

I’ll have sporadic access to my email over the next few days, so there may be a delay in responding back.

I’ve added Buzzcomix vote buttons to PCW and UNcubed as well, and put a new UNcubed banner up on the Friends page (you’ll have to scroll down that page to see it). Feel free to slap it on your site if you’d like to promote that comic.

More Input!

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

The PCW forums have a lot of discussion and activity. But we need YOU!

Here are just a few of the recent topics of discussion:

  1. We have a reader needing feedback on his art. Please give him your input.
  2. A few proposed topics for this week’s Sequential Artists’ Pub (Episode 6) are on the docket – we’re open for other suggestions. Share ‘em with us!
  3. What would you fix about your work? Creators sound off.
  4. The Art and Story podcast is running an experimental comics contest – details and links are in the forum as well.

My Studio Reorg (Photos)

Monday, August 4th, 2008

It’s been a busy weekend – spent mostly moving stuff around in our town-home in preparation for the “carpet guys”. They were supposed to arrive at 9 this morning, but surprised us an hour early.

Good thing we were already awake.

Most of my stuff found refuge in our guest-bathroom, as the three photos below indicate. (I even put stuff in the bathtub).

The installation went really smooth – within two hours, the 5 carpet guys had finished. I spent the better part of the afternoon doing some spring cleaning. I rewired my stereo, getting rid of a lot of excess cabling. I also overhauled my studio set-up. Both Mac towers are now on the right side of my desk.

Here’s a shot of the hutch that houses my laser printer, another old Apple IIGS, cable modem and other assorted goodies.

I was able to minimize the length of many of the cables – coiling them up seemed to keep them manageable.

My stalwart IIGS sits in waiting on my desk. More to write about when my MicroDrive shows up.

The bookshelves are still empty, but things are slowly settling back to their old place. I even outfitted the office with a rug.

All in a day’s work, I suppose.

Sucker City

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

This ad from MAD magazine had me in stitches:

sucker-city-02

Circuit City tried to have the magazine removed from its stores on Monday (Circuit City carries magazines?) – but then sheepishly apologized for not being able to take a joke. Full article here.

The Reviews Are In…

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Yesterday, Philip “Frumph” Hofer over at Frumph.net gave me a heads-up on a couple of reviews of The PC Weenies so far. It’s good to hear an unbiased view of my work – both the good and the bad. (They were far too kind to me, I think.)

Speaking of comics, why not check out the newest comic you aren’t reading yet? Yes, it’s UNcubed, the weekly look at some Indian guy when he’s not making webcomics.

Be sure to check out the latest Art & Story Alive podcast, which was recorded yesterday, with hosts Jerzy Drozd and Mark Rudolph. We talk about style, originality, and how to pronounce the word ‘homage’. :) Good stuff!
