Bruce Lee pioneered Jeet Kune Do (JKD), which translates to "Way of the Intercepting Fist" in Chinese. Using wing chun kung-fu's techniques as a foundation, Bruce systematically developed a simple yet effective method for fighting.

For a simple style, Bruce's text 'Tao of Jeet Kune Do' is quite complicated. Bruce never intended his notes on his new style to be published. It was only after his death that his wife, Linda Lee Caldwell, felt it would be best to pass along Bruce's knowledge onto others. When comparing JKD to other styles, Bruce claimed it was similar to that of Judo, more so than karate or aikido.

Still, towards the end of his life, Bruce felt giving the name JKD would lead people into thinking it was a new style. Bruce prefered to consider his art a combination of styles, correcting inefficiencies within them, and thus, freeing himself of strict form.

"Use what is best for you". This is the basis of Jeet Kune Do.
