Monkey Mod: fan art (pencils)

While participating in the Art & Story Alive podcast this evening, I had my sketchbook in hand. The sketches above are a byproduct of that session. The character in question is Monkey Mod, originally created and developed by the incredibly talented Kevin Cross. He and co-host Joshua Kemble also record the Big Illustration Party Time podcast, a weekly show which focuses on the ins-and-outs of freelance illustration and cartooning. I’ve been a listener since the first episode, and find the show to be both entertaining and incredibly useful.

I’m really excited that Kevin’s taking the foray into webcomics, and look forward to reading more of his incredible work. Take a peek!

P.S. Time permitting, I may ink and color the sketches above… :)

UN3 plug

A brand new UN3 comic was posted today. 36 years of questions I constantly get, distilled into 4 succinct panels. Cathartic, for sure.

My brush settings for Photoshop

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

For the last 3 years I’ve been digitally inking with Painter. Why Painter? My inking results in Photoshop were not yielding the line variations I wanted.

Now that I have a new Intuos4 tablet to play with, I decided to give Photoshop another chance. I also experimented a bit more with the brush options. Below are the settings I have found that yield good results. It’s still not quite as awesome as the Scratchboard Tool in Painter, but it’s very close.

End result: I’m now very tempted to ink a strip in Photoshop, just to see what the overall results will be.

Enjoy!

P.S. Do you want multiple Undos in Photoshop? You can remap the Cmd-Z key to “Step Backward” – which does precisely that.

My “bachelor days” (or is that “bachelor daze”?) installments continue.

This particular strip was drawn entirely using Photoshop.
